CAL Poly Corporation Coordinator/Advisor Educational Talent Search
Under the general direction and supervision of the Educational Talent Search Director, the Coordinator/Academic Advisor is responsible for assisting high school and junior high students who are low-income and are and/or potential first-generation college to pursue post-secondary education. The position provides academic advising and coordinates all programming in Santa Maria, Nipomo, Guadalupe, Arroyo Grande, and at Cal Poly for program participants. In collaboration with the Educational Talent Search program team, the Coordinator/Academic Advisor assists in planning and developing project services. The Coordinator/Academic Advisor identifies university and community resources that would enhance and augment existing program services. The position works with the Educational Talent Search program team meeting goals and objectives as outlined in the grant.
This position regularly drives to target schools, Workshops, and Parent Meetings. Workweek includes occasional evening hours, extended workdays and weekends, in addition to assisting Upward Bound during their summer residential program. Incumbents in the Substantially Similar Student Services Professional II classification (3082, Range E) perform moderately complex professional student service work in that assignments typically the application of both knowledge and judgment in using the principles, techniques, standards, guides and professional skills characteristic of a particular student service program or activity.
This is the first level to require: planning; both interviewing and counseling techniques; judgment to recommend solutions to problems and changes in program procedures; and acting as spokesperson within the area of expertise. Excellent benefits. Background check required.
