POSITION OBJECTIVE
The Research and Engagement Services Team Leader is part of a service-driven team that supports the research, instruction, and outreach services to the campus community. This position manages the delivery of research and instructional services for the campus and community including classes and workshops, and virtual reference services. The research and engagement services team leader supervises seven full-time staff. Administers annual evaluations, goal setting and mid-year review meetings; monitors progress toward goals and advise staff as needed; approve schedules and leave requests. Holds regular department meetings. Reviews and approves proposals for new projects, service policies and procedures. Initiates new programs and services to meet the changing needs of students and faculty. Evaluates the programs and services of the department through ongoing assessment and service statistics. Monitors trends in library staffing to strategically plan for future positions and reorganization within the department. Recruits new staff through the strategic hiring process; develop training programs. Develops procedures and policies for staff. Advocates for resources for staff projects or initiatives. Monitors the professional development and continuous learning of staff, suggest appropriate training and conferences to improve or expand skills. The team lead will work with the Associate University Librarian Access, Content and Engagement Services to play a leadership role in library-wide policy making and, in the development, and evaluation of services. This position also works closely with other areas such as Special Collections, the Freedman Center for Digital Scholarship, Acquisitions and Metadata Services, and Access and Delivery. The team lead will serve as a member of the Kelvin Smith Library Collection Strategies Steering Committee.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide creative and innovative team leadership and actively contribute to the broader strategic goals of the library and the university through participation on the library leadership team. Mentor and supervise library staff, work with staff to set goals and objectives; evaluate performance, recruit staff, and develop training programs for continuous improvements. Develop operational procedures and policies and advocate for staff and resources. (30%)
- Make decisions on a strategic basis; collaborates and partners effectively internally and external to the organization; provides expertise technical services operations and applies best practices; uses advanced techniques and technology to innovate; performs highly complex or specialized duties; communicates effectively and employs general management theories and practices. Possesses extensive knowledge, skills, and abilities within library science; accomplishments are recognized at the University and in the profession; maintains knowledge about library emerging issues and trends and the role of the library; understands and articulates organizational positioning, strategic alignment, change management, and leadership. (25%)
- Cultivate a work environment that promotes collaboration, accountability, high performance, staff engagement; sets standards of excellence that inspire and motivate. (10%)
- Plan and manage system wide initiates with other campus stakeholders through participation on library, consortium, and University task forces, team, and committees. (7%)
- Implement KSL strategic objectives regarding programs for information fluency. (7%)
- Collect and analyze data for decision-making and planning. (6%)

CONTACTS
Department: Work closely with associate director on policy issues. Supervise team members to ensure excellent service. Collaborate with staff on all levels of the organization to support the provision of library services. Work with the associate provost and university librarian, associate directors, team leaders, and staff in all other units in the library as required.
University: Consult frequently with faculty, including assigned liaison faculty, faculty committees and other department administrators to determine teaching and research informational requirements to make appropriate information management decisions. Work regularly with faculty to develop, review, and improve information management policies and procedures. Consult regularly with other campus librarians to coordinate information management decisions for the provision of library services. Consult regularly with staff throughout the university to develop and implement programs for the delivery of services to students and faculty.
External: Participate in local, regional and national organizations to maintain a network of information professionals which enhances our services and to stay abreast of trends and changes in the profession. Collaborate with colleagues in OhioLINK and other academic libraries. Work with vendors to support print and electronic resource selections.
Students: Engage in daily communication with student assistants in the team to provide assistance and information resources to support their education and research needs.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
Supervise exempt staff and non-exempt staff; student employees, and temporary full or part-time workers.
QUALIFICATIONS
Team leaders must have sufficient experience and expertise in the work of the Team to serve as a supervisor, advisor and mentor to others. Appointment to this level assumes that all requirements of Librarian 3 have been met and sustained, that the individual has demonstrated continued and outstanding growth in the profession, and is able assume leadership responsibilities and perform existing responsibilities at the highest level. Promotion to this level requires not only excellence of performance but also recognition of contributions at the state, national or international level. Leadership at this level can be managerial, communicative or intellectual in nature, and can manifest itself in any aspect of the profession.
Experience: 6 years of experience.
Education: A Master's degree in Library/Information Science or relative advanced degree.

Knowledgeable about emerging issues and trends relating to the future direction of the library. Able to articulate effectively the place, role and application of trends on the library. Understand and focus on organizational positioning, strategic alignment, leading teams and staff, change management, and professional leadership. Possess a high level of expertise in research or other professional endeavors within his/her specific area of work.
- Demonstrate evidence of substantial and sustained professional contributions to the library and to the institution through professional service (e.g., officer or chair of professional organizations or scholarly contribution (e.g., professional publications and presentations) at the state, regional, national or international level).
- Able to, and willingly offers, to effectively mentor other library staff.
- Ability to handle the stress of performing multiple concurrent tasks with interruptions as needed.
- Demonstrated ability to secure resources needed and to serve as a strong advocate to accomplish the mission of the library.
- Demonstrated success in human resources management, including the ability to engage staff in improvement and change.
- Proficient in project management to initiate, facilitate, conclude, and evaluate projects with efficiency and effectiveness.
- Possesses the ability to provide leadership within the larger organization to ensure that the needs of the team are well understood and valued.

- Team leaders must meet or exceed all expectations as outlined in the Librarian Broadband Policy that pertains to Librarian three or four.

WORKING CONDITIONS
General office/library environment. Evening and weekend work required. This position is eligible for the staff hybrid work program.
