Chief Water Treatment Plant Operator

SUMMARY: Operates Class IV Water Treatment Plant. Responsible for operation and maintenance of all equipment, building, and grounds of such plant. Performs water sample testing. Maintains accurate and complete records, prepares agency reports, calculates rates and logs deliveries. Calibrate and maintain various mechanical electrical and electronic equipment. Work in confined spaces as necessary. Plans and schedules work. Monitors and records all data of operation for the Treatment Plant, High Service Pump Station and Raw Water Pump Station. Reports any and all malfunctions or operational problems. Installs chemical feed, laboratory and Treatment Plant analyzing equipment. Must understand mechanical and scientific principals of each process unit, and the performance criteria for turbidity, total coliform, fecal coliform, disinfectant residual, pH, hardness and coagulation to determine operational adjustment. Works with water treatment chemicals, and orders chemicals and materials needed. Supervises operators, prepares work schedules, employee timesheets, and maintains overtime records.
WORK SCHEDULE: 40 hours per week, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (day shift). Regular work days include any day of the week (Monday through Sunday). Performs mandatory sampling every 4th week that includes Saturday, Sunday, and holidays.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION: Requires CT Class IV Water Treatment Operator Certification or have the ability to obtain the Operator-In-Training (OIT) CT Class IV Water Treatment Operator Certification within 9 months of hire date, and shall obtain full Class IV certification within 22 months of hire date. Requires valid CT Motor Vehicle License.
QUALIFICATIONS PROFILE: Requires high school graduate or GED, and a minimum of four (4) years experience in filter plant operation; OR Bachelor’s degree in related field may be substituted for a maximum of three (3) years filter plant experience. Must possess exceptional communication skills. One year supervisory experience preferred.

SALARY: $63,836 - $83,855/yr.
