Who we are? Pismo Beach is a full-service, oceanfront city with a population of about 8,500, located in San Luis Obispo County, midway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. The City's commercial base is primarily tourism-oriented, with a significant number of hotels, motels and restaurants. There is no smog, which makes the area healthy for outdoor activities.
Description Of The Beach: The City Beach extends approximately 1.5 miles. The temperatures generally are mild during the summer months. They can occasionally reach the high 90's. The predominate northwest wind can reach speeds of up to 35 knots, which can create extreme ocean conditions. Occasionally, tropical storms from the southwest and strong northwest winds can create large swells that reach the Central Coast. When this occurs, ocean dynamics change, and rip and lateral currents develop, resulting in dangerous conditions for ocean swimmers.
