Lab-Interdisciplinary Instructor
Registered Nurse/Laboratory-Interdisciplinary Instructor Jacksonville University is seeking a full-time Lab-Interdisciplinary Instructor to work in a team-based environment within the Keigwin School of Nursing.
The Lab-Interdisciplinary Instructor will collaborate with faculty to oversee the use of nursing skills by undergraduate and graduate level nursing students and instruct and mentor other healthcare science students. The qualified candidate would be a Registered Nurse (BSN, MSN preferred) with a diverse clinical background. Previous Lab Instructor and/or simulation experience preferred but not required.
Essential Job Duties
- Under the director of the Skills Lab Director, assist with the coordination and assembly of laboratory and clinical activities for courses such as Strategies for Academic Success, Nursing Fundamentals, Introduction to Pharmacology and Nursing Health Assessment.
- Oversee the students, and volunteer’s activities designated by the Skills Lab and STAR (Simulation Technology and Applied Research) Center Director(s).
- Acquire, maintain and inventory equipment, materials, supplies based on anticipated need.
- Perform basic maintenance of equipment.
- Provide the general cleanliness and security of the laboratory. Appropriately dispose of hazardous materials. Ensure the lab meets all OSHA standards and maintains appropriate documents.
- Integrate and teach current medical errors, proactive and safety mandates in simulation
- Under the direction of the Skills Lab and STAR Center Director(s), assist with the coordination of faculty/class utilization of the skills lab.
- Assist with inter-disciplinary student training and trouble-shooting for Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Serve as an inter-disciplinary clinical resource for students (open lab and tutoring) and remediation (class/clinical).
- Collaborate with the Skills Lab and STAR Center to research and develop inter-disciplinary simulation case scenarios and activities.
- Develop, organize, and present effective inter-disciplinary enrichment materials, workshops, and methods for students to enhance learning in the laboratory setting.
- Facilitate contact with appropriate resources for students experience academic difficulty.
- Plan and implement remediation to meet the learning objectives in the various inter-disciplinary clinical settings based upon faculty needs and the Skills Lab and STAR Center Director(s).
- Assist inter-disciplinary students with study skills, priority setting, and test taking skills, including NCLEX-RN testing taking strategies and time/stress management.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Participate in professional development and attend professional meetings
- Attend regularly scheduled JU Keigwin School of Nursing general faculty meetings and activities.
- Coordinate laboratory and clinical activities for courses such as Strategies for Academic
Success, Nursing Fundamentals, Intro to Pharmacology and Nursing Health Assessment, and inter-disciplinary courses as directed by the Skills Lab and Simulation Training and Applied Research Director.
- Provide feedback to the Skills Lab and STAR Center Director(s) regarding the skills lab operations.
- Coordinate skills remediation for re-entry specific course work and re-entry students and provide formal documentation of successful completion to the Director of Undergraduate Nursing Programs and course faculty.
- Participate in Human Standardized Patient Simulations, low-fidelity, mid-fidelity, and high-fidelity simulations in the Skills Lab, and Simulations Training and Applied Research Center.
- Participate in community events hosted by Jacksonville University or The Brooks Rehabilitation College of Healthcare Sciences (BRCHS).
- Work flexible hours as designated by the Skills Lab and Simulation Training and Applied Research Director(s) according to the needs of the Brooks Rehabilitation College of Healthcare Sciences (BRCHS) students.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
