Accounts Payable Accountant
Job Description:
The Accounts Payable Accountant will provide assistance with various accounts payable duties. The Accountant will reconcile weekly payments, perform accounts payable transactions, work on electronic invoices, and assist the credit statement team.
Duties to include:
- Monthly review and analysis of vendor statements to ensure timely payment of invoices and processing of credits or outstanding invoices.
- Manage electronic invoice process and make necessary adjustments to ensure accuracy of payments to vendors.
- Reconcile daily and weekly payments.
- Assist with monthly accounting reports.
- Verify and close transactions as necessary.
- Create recurring automated payments for leases and rentals.

About Accounts Payable:
The Accounts Payable (AP) department is responsible for the auditing and processing of invoices and payments for The University of Iowa. Invoices, credits, vouchers, and payments are processed online through the Accounts Payable/Purchase Order (AP/PO) System.
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field, or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- A minimum of 6 months experience in Accounts Payable is required.
- Must be proficient in computer software applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Good organizational and analytical/statistical skills with the ability to meet deadlines and multitask are required.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, such as Excel and Word, are required. A work sample will be given to interviewees either before or at the time of interview to assess Excel.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of automated accounting systems is desirable.
- Familiarity with the PeopleSoft Accounts Payable system is desirable.
- Familiarity with the APPO, E-Pro, and ProTrav systems is desirable.
- Knowledge of University business policies and procedures are desirable.
