The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is seeking applications for an Academic Advisor II to work in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Advising Center. Our mission is to deliver bachelors, masters, and doctoral programs in a research intensive environment that provides students with the opportunity to develop state-of-the-art technical skills, a practice-ready orientation, and extraordinary character. We leverage our urban location in Charlotte to provide students and faculty with unique opportunities in all aspects of electrical and computer engineering, including communications, control systems, signal processing, computer hardware and software, electronic devices and circuits, and power and energy systems.

Minimum Qualifications: A master’s degree in academic advising, student services, higher education, engineering, or a related field is required. Two years of related experience involving student academic advising in a higher education setting.

Essential Job Duties: The Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Advising Center serves undergraduate and graduate students within the department’s academic programs, students in transition, and to prospective high school and transfer students in the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department. The Academic Advisor will serve as a member of the ECE Advising team that serves both undergraduate and graduate programs within the department. The primary purpose of the Advisor will be to advise seniors in the electrical and computer engineering programs and coordinate advising functions for all graduate students in ECE. The ECE Advising Center uses a developmental model approach so that students develop the knowledge and skills and personal accountability needed to explore their academic and co-curricular options, evaluate and track their own progress toward graduation, access support, and enrichment services, and understand and follow university policies and timelines. Advising services encompass a range of interactions with students ranging from individual and small group meetings to email and social media, among others. The Center also provides an orientation to new students, support to first-generation college students and transfer students, and intervention programs for at-risk students, and graduate students.
